2012 Summer Olympics
- Go For a Medal in London, the City of Gold

2012 Summer Olympics

The 2012 Summer Olympics in London will be an exciting time to visit the city. Grand preparations are being made to ensure that this will be the best Olympic Games yet.

When it was announced that London was successful in its bid to host the games, there was nationwide rejoicing and a bit of surprise. Two other cities in the UK had applied to host over the last 12 years and had been turned down, so when London was chosen it was a bit of a boost for the entire nation.

The Olympics has a long and distinguished history and many countries vie every year for hosting rights.

Hosting the Olympics is a prestigious opportunity for any nation. From a patriotic standpoint, it is an opportunity to show the world some of the wonderful things about your country, both to the visiting athletes, press, and tourists as well as to the millions all over the world who will be tuning in via television. From an economic standpoint, it is a great boom for tourism and if handled correctly, it can also mean a great deal more.

Billions of pounds are being spent on infrastructure and new construction that will hopefully be of lasting benefit to the residents once the 2012 Olympics are over. Events like this can energize and mobilize both private and public sectors to get improvements done that might otherwise have just languished on a drawing board.

Cost is a consideration for any venture of this nature. Indeed, as with most large projects, the costs have already proven to be greater than anticipated.

The real question is whether the benefits of putting on the 2012 Olympics in London will justify the costs. If the East End can reap some lasting improvements in infrastructure and affordable housing from the reconstruction efforts, that would be a very real and important benefit for the city.

The 2012 Summer Olympics could be the best thing to happen to London in a long time.

If you are going to the London 2012 Olympics, history tells us that you should make sure to book your tickets and room reservations far in advance to ensure that you have some choice in what you do and where you stay.

Looking at the London 2012 Olympic Games timeline, you might think that it was a hasty decision by the British Olympic Committee, but plans for the bid go back more than 5 years before the paperwork was filed.

The 2012 London Olympics cost is quite hard to estimate; there was a 50% overrun contingency built into the initial budget.

The 2012 London Regeneration Program is the largest development effort to hit the city since the 2002 Docklands development; hopefully residents of the East End will reap as many rewards from this development as the Docklands brought the London business community.
