A Grelha at The Gun
- Portuguese for Barbecue

A Grelha at The Gun

A Grelha at The Gun is a wonderful riverfront deck restaurant in Coldharbour. This venue is the brainchild of brothers Tom and Ed Martin who painstakingly restored the historic pub next door called The Gun after a devastating fire tore through the structure in 2001.

A Grelha is completely outdoors, and operates Wednesday to Sunday during the warm weather months. The brick patio is covered with sturdy wooden chairs and tables, many of them shielded by umbrellas to spare you from direct sunlight on the hottest of days.

The restaurant is directly across the river from the O2, and quite near Canary Wharf.

One of the nicest things about A Grelha is that it's generally not crowded. The deck restaurant is tucked away like a secret pavilion of delights that only those in the know get to enjoy.

The restaurant has a very simple menu, mainly meat and fish selections that are all cooked right before your eyes on the large outdoor barbecue grill. Accompaniments to the grilled selections are various tapas and freshly baked Portuguese breads.

The menu options are classic Algarve dishes such as Chicken Piri-Piri, Chorizo flamed in Medrano, and Seafood Cataplana, which is a seafood stew with fish that is cooked slowly in a special copper dish. You can also get grilled tiger prawns, lamb espetada, and whole sea bass or dorade fresh off the grill.

All of the fish and seafood comes fresh from nearby Billingsgate Market every day.

A Grelha has a large selection of Portuguese beers on tap and in bottles, as well as an impressive cellar of Portuguese wines.

Perhaps one of the nicest ways to spend a warm day is to unwind with a summer cocktail or two on the deck; they serve everything here from the usual Sangria and Pimms to the more exotic Caipirinhas and Mojitos. You can watch the riverfront traffic and watch as your meal is grilled to perfection.

A Grelha is the perfect place for a pleasant summer evening.
