Afternoon Tea at the Ritz
– Dress for Success

Afternoon Tea at The Ritz

Afternoon tea at the Ritz is a great way to feel like a wealthy Londoner from a more formal and genteel age.

Set in the sumptuously decorated Palm Court, you are surrounded by the elegant gilded décor with mirrors, marble columns, and flowery wrought iron chandeliers.

Waiters in tuxedos with tails escort you to your table.

The Ritz is full of thoughtful touches, such as a handbag shelf under the table that keeps your valuables safe and off the floor.

At the Ritz they are quite serious about enforcing their dress code; even afternoon tea is formal, no denim or trainers are allowed and those who do not come dressed appropriately will be turned away. Some may find this requirement onerous, but when you are all paying to participate in a stylish and elegant event, do you really want to sit across from a fellow at a neighbouring table wearing a grotty t-shirt and flip flops?

Dress up in your finest and enjoy playing your role as one of the beautiful people, if only for the afternoon.

Reserve your afternoon tea well in advance as it is one of the most popular venues and it fills up fast.

The Ritz has 17 teas to choose from, with favourites like Darjeeling and Assam, the Ritz’s own house blend called Ritz Royal English, and the more exotic selections such as Moroccan Mint, Elderflower, and Russian Caravan.

The waiters are all friendly and professional, and they have extensive knowledge about the teas they serve as well as English teatime etiquette, so if you have a question about anything, do not hesitate to ask.

Tea sandwiches at the Ritz are old favourites like smoked salmon, ham, chicken, and cucumber. The mature cheddar cheese sandwiches are especially good and are served on bread made with sun-dried tomatoes.

The Ritz serves raisin and apple scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry preserves and an assortment of tea pastries and cakes including the famed Ritz Chocolate Cake.

Afternoon tea at the Ritz can also be booked with extras, such as chocolate delights, champagne, or a birthday cake.
