The Author of The Da Vinci Code - The Unsinkable Dan Brown
The author of The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown, has had remarkable success over the years with his series of books based on myths, mysteries, and symbols in religion and history. As you might expect, his choice of subject matter has made him a controversial figure in many circles, and it has generated a great deal of interest in some rather obscure historical curiosities.

Many visitors to London make a special effort to seek out some of the sights and locations like the Temple Church (pictured) mentioned in The Da Vinci Code. Despite or perhaps due to these controversies, The Da Vinci Code has been a best-selling sensation, selling more than 80 million copies worldwide in 44 languages, and this success has made Dan Brown an extremely wealthy man. Dan Brown grew up in New Hampshire, USA in a family of mathematicians and musicians who loved all sorts of puzzles and treasure hunts. In this way his relationship with his father mirrored that of Sophie Neveu and Jacques Sauničre, characters in The Da Vinci Code who also loved to solve puzzles and ciphers. Brown’s career as a novelist did not get off to a roaring start, but his fourth book, The Da Vinci Code, went to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list a week of its release in 2003. The book has gone on to become one of the best-selling books in history, and Dan Brown’s earnings from it have been estimated to be in excess of $250 million. The main character in The Da Vinci Code is Robert Langdon, a Harvard educated scholar with an encyclopaedic knowledge of symbols and seemingly everything arcane and obscure. Langdon also features in Angels and Demons, as well as Dan Brown’s latest best-selling novel, The Lost Symbol. Brown apparently plans to continue telling the story of Robert Langdon and his adventures, and has stated that he has ideas for at least 12 more books. As the author of The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown has become a very wealthy and successful novelist and a worldwide literary sensation.
