BFI IMAX - Immerse Yourself in the Experience
The BFI IMAX Cinema in South Bank has a lot to recommend it. Since its inauguration in 1999 by no less than the Prince of Wales, this cinema has been a popular spot for both tourists and Londoners.

The extremely large screen and intense sound system work together to draw the audience into the picture, and viewers report feeling as if they are truly part of the action taking place on the screen. It is a singular experience, and one that you should try at least once in your life. The 500 seat theatre is wheelchair accessible and has a café and bar for those looking for some refreshments, but make sure to bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. The movies shown at this cinema are generally remastered specifically for the IMAX theatre or filmed especially for it so audiences can get the full effect of the graphics and sound that make IMAX movies so special. Some of the best movies to see at the BFI IMAX are the ones that create their own universe, and some recent films shown there have been Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and the Harry Potter films. Because of the popularity of this theatre, it is recommended that you book your ticket in advance, either by phone or online. Even if the movie isn’t sold out, buying your tickets right before the show will mean standing in a queue in a lobby that gets quite crowded indeed. For those who have planned ahead, there are machines in the lobby where you can retrieve your pre-booked tickets before the start of the show. Most people think that the seats in the middle of the theatre are the best ones to choose, but you may have a special location preference of your own. One word of caution however, those with a fear of heights may find that this theatre is just too much. This modern cinema is the place to go to experience state of the art movie magic.
