Brown's Hotel was awarded Top London Afternoon Tea 2009 by the UK Tea Guild. The afternoon tea was described as being of the highest order, just as one would expect in such a fine hotel, and the atmosphere is relaxed and calm.

Afternoon tea at Brown's Hotel is served in the English Tea Room, a light and airy room with lovely original wood panelling and an ornate plaster ceiling. This is the same tea room where Rudyard Kipling took his tea and wrote The Jungle Book while living at the hotel, and Agatha Christie used Brown's Hotel as the inspiration for her At Bertram’s Hotel.

Your tea is served in an antique silver tea service which adds to the historic ambiance of your visit.

There are 17 different teas to choose from and you are welcome to try several kinds; the staff is quite helpful and knowledgeable about their teas and can assist you with making your choices if necessary.

The fare is tea sandwiches, scones with Devonshire cream and homemade strawberry preserves, and an assortment of pastries. These items come to your table on a tiered silver stand and the scones are covered with a cloth napkin to keep them warm.

A cake trolley comes to your table with a selection of freshly baked cakes and you may help yourself to a fragrant slice.

The English Tea Room has a special Summer Afternoon Tea which features strawberries and cream and a glass of champagne along with the usual teatime fare.
