Any French central London restaurant has got to be very good to hold its ground. The close proximity to France means that many Londoners are quite familiar with the cuisine and won’t suffer an establishment that is not up to their standard. Thankfully, La Trouvaille lives up to its name and delivers a really excellent dining experience.
The downstairs area at La Trouvaille is a wine bar that serves lunch from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Classic brasserie offerings like Croque Monsieur, Steak Frites and Charcuterie Platter dot the menu, as well as a nice selection of Tartines.
The wines at La Trouvaille are quite remarkable. The restaurant only serves biodynamic wines, which are wines made from grapes grown using biodynamic methods pioneered by Rudolf Steiner. This means the fruit for these wines has been grown with no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or other additives. The soil is treated like a living organism and special care is taken to enhance its vitality. These measures are said to produce a superior wine, and judging from La Trouvaille’s success, the wines are indeed lovely.
La Trouvaille collaborates with independent vintners in the South of France to bring biodynamic wines to a wider market.
The restaurant area serves an a la carte lunch, as well as a set price lunch. They offer a pre-theatre set menu as well, which is served from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
Dinner is a set price for either 2 or 3 courses. Starters might be Beef Carpaccio with aubergines, sweet balsamic and parmesan tuile, or preserved black olive mousse with anchovy tempura, parsley puree and preserved cherry tomatoes.
A very popular main is the rack of lamb with carrots and cumin purée, apricot, Swiss chard and thyme jus.
For the real connoisseurs, La Trouvaille has a 5 course tasting menu that can be paired with a selection of biodynamic wines chosen to enhance your culinary experience.
A French central London restaurant would have to try very hard to top the experience at La Trouvaille.
