The Da Vinci Code Cast
- The Usual Suspects

The Da Vinci Code cast has quite a few faces that are familiar to frequent moviegoers. Director Ron Howard decided to take on the making of this controversial movie, and brought along his friend and collaborator Tom Hanks to play the starring role of Robert Langdon, the Harvard University symbologist who is drawn into the heart of the mystery.

Da Vinci Code Cast

Hanks enjoyed his role and liked the story, calling it a fun scavenger hunt sort of movie.

Audrey Tautou plays the role of Sophie Neveu, a cryptographer with the French police who proves to be a vital key to unlocking the ultimate secret.

The wonderful Ian McKellen practically steals the show in his role as Sir Leigh Teabing, an eccentric scholar of Holy Grail lore and aristocratic rogue. McKellen had strong opinions about the story, saying that he believed audiences were intelligent enough to know fact from fiction and to decide things for themselves after seeing the movie.

Filming in London using famous buildings like Westminster Abbey (pictured) was marked by protests and difficulties as some religious groups were in strong opposition to both the book and the movie project, but the cast and crew stuck it out and finished the production anyway.

Paul Bettany stars as Silas, the sinister Opus Dei monk intent on protecting his church at any cost, and Alfred Molina plays Bishop Aringarosa, a devout man with good intentions that end in murderous consequences.

Jean Reno plays the gruff police captain Bezu Fache who is intent on finding the murderer and who seems to have secrets of his own.

Veteran actor Jürgen Prochnow puts in an appearance as a banker whose discretion and a safe deposit box help Langdon and Neveu along their journey.

There were several cameo appearances in the film as well. Dan Brown and Cheryl Howard, Ron Howard’s wife, are seen in the background during the movie sequence when Robert Langdon signs books.

The cast of The Da Vinci Code may have had some difficulties while filming the movie, but in the end they managed to make a very successful film.
