The Lanesborough Hotel in London
– Tea Served in the Conservatory

Lanesborough Hotel London

The Lanesborough Hotel in London is a wonderful landmark hotel at Hyde Park Corner on Knightsbridge.

Built on the site of a former country house, it takes both its name and its 19th century grand residential décor from this inspiration.

Afternoon tea at The Lanesborough is served in Apsley's Restaurant which resembles a large and airy conservatory with a glass roof and bold contemporary design features such as enormous circular chandeliers. A pianist plays in the background and guests sit on comfortable chairs and sofas awaiting their tea.

Tea is also served in the elegant Withdrawing Room for those who wish a more private afternoon tea experience.

One rather unique aspect of afternoon tea at The Lanesborough is the Tea Sommelier that they have on staff. He is the first tea sommelier in England and he will be delighted to answer your tea questions, tell you more about the teas that are available, and recommend something special for you. The staff have been personally trained by the tea sommelier, so they are also quite capable of directing you to a tea which you will enjoy.

There are several types of afternoon teas at The Lanesborough.

The Lanesborough Tea includes your choice of tea from a rather dizzying selection including various herbal infusions, Rooibos, Green Teas of all kinds, Pu-erh or aged teas, Black Teas, White Teas, Yellow Teas, and Oolong Teas. You can sample more than one type of tea, so be adventurous and try something new.

Afternoon Tea includes a variety of finger sandwiches, pastries, toasted teacakes, and homemade scones. Something quite special at The Lanesborough is the homemade lemon curd that is served with the scones, it is a treat. Fruit preserves and Devonshire cream round out this traditional tea.

The Belgravia Tea has the same offerings as the regular tea, but it also comes with strawberries and cream and a glass of Taittinger Champagne or Taittinger Rose Champagne.

The Lanesborough Hotel in London is an excellent choice for a special afternoon tea.
