The Langham in London
- Home of James Bond in GoldenEye (1995)

Langham Hotel London

The Langham in London is a stately 5 star luxury hotel located on Portland Place, Regent Street. When it opened in 1865, The Langham was the very first “Grand Hotel” in Europe and it remains one of the finest.

The structure recently went through an £80m restoration which has brought its more than 300 guest rooms and suites into the 21st century with style. Despite the recent upheaval, when it comes to guest accommodations, attention to detail, and overall excellence, you can rest assured that nothing has changed at The Langham.

It is understandable that such an iconic part of the London scene should be featured in films from time to time. The Langham Hotel was filmed in 1995 for GoldenEye. In the film, James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is yet again tasked with saving the world from destruction.

This particular Bond movie is notable because it marks the debut of Judi Dench as “M” in an inspired bit of casting.

The crisis in the film comes when a dangerous Russian satellite system called GoldenEye is stolen by evildoers. Bond heads to Russia, and matches wits with the villainous but sexy Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) at the Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg. The Langham Hotel proved to be perfect stand-ins for the Russian hotel; all that was needed to complete the illusion was to hang a Russian flag at the entrance.

It seems fitting that a movie featuring the utterly British James Bond should be filmed in London rather than St. Petersburg, after all.

As GoldenEye unfolds, we see things get more complicated for 007 as his former partner, originally thought to have been executed by the Russians, emerges as a key player in this dangerous game of global domination.

In the end, James Bond saves the world in his inimitably stylish and entertaining way, as always.

The Langham in London is a great place to stage your own adventure, even if you do not have a license to kill.
