London Buses information is easy to find and once you do, you will see that this is an excellent way to travel around the city. Buses have been on the streets of London since 1829, back when horse-drawn omnibuses were in their heyday.
Over the years, motor omnibuses replaced the horse, and in the 1950s and 1960s the classic red double decker Routemaster bus became the iconic symbol of London.
Nowadays, the Routemaster still exists but only runs on two heritage routes due to its extreme age and lack of wheelchair accessibility.
London Buses run regular local routes as well as night routes that take over after the underground closes.
London Buses are still painted red and their styling harks back to the classic Routemaster design, but now they are engineered to be more accommodating to the needs of disabled and limited-mobility passengers.
Children ride free on London Buses, but those aged 11 to 15 need a photo id card issued by the Oyster Card system that takes about three weeks to process.
Buses running central London routes do not accept cash; you can buy bus tickets from machines near the bus stops or from many newsagents, you can buy a full-day bus pass, or you can buy an Oyster Card that allows you to travel by any of the London public transportation systems at a discounted rate.
If you are keen to ride on one of the classic Routemaster buses, the heritage routes where they can be found are Route 9 from Royal Albert Hall to Aldwych and Route 15 from Trafalgar to Tower Hill.
These are very scenic routes that will take you past many of the most popular historic sights in London.
There are a wide variety of bus tours also available, and many are given in open-topped buses which allow you a great view of the city.
These tour buses are run by independent companies and are not part of the London Buses System, and you can generally purchase tickets from the drivers.
London Buses information can really come in handy for visitors trying to make their way around the city.
