London Golf Courses - Mind the Deer
London golf courses might seem unlikely given the dense urban landscape, but they are actually more common that you might think. Golf is quite popular among Londoners, many of whom love nothing more than taking advantage of those special sunny and warm days to go play a round or two.

If you are a golf fan, you ought to take advantage of the facilities that London has to offer during your visit to the capital. One of the best pay and play golf areas in London is at Richmond Park. They have two public golf courses that are very nicely kept, and their special setting amidst the rolling splendour of the large Royal Park makes them a delightful place to play golf. There is also a large driving range, and you can hire buggies and golf equipment from the shop as needed. If you need to brush up on your game a bit, there are also instructors on hand to help you get your swing under control or fine tune your short game. Do keep an eye out for the red and fallow deer that roam the grounds. They have been residents of the park for hundreds of years and have surely become accustomed to the strange sight of people playing golf, but hitting them with an errant shank would be poor form indeed. If you fancy playing at one of the venerable old golf courses in London, the Highgate Golf Club is located on the north side of Hampstead Heath, and has been an organised golf club since 1904. In spite of its long history, it is a relatively unknown club, and has been called London's best kept golfing secret. Highgate is a hilly parkland golf course, with mature trees and luxurious greens. Visitors with a handicap are welcome to play the course during the week, although you may find Wednesdays to be a bit crowded, and greens fees are relatively reasonable. Golf courses in London are lovely green spaces where you will certainly enjoy yourself thoroughly.
