London Parking Information

London parking information is an important consideration for people who intend to drive in the city.

The maze of London streets can seem intimidating to visitors, and so can parking on those streets.

London is a very busy city and legal parking spots can often be quite difficult to find.

There are many rules and regulations that apply to parking in central London, and ignoring them or being careless about following them will likely be a very expensive mistake.

The most important thing about parking in London is to always read the signs.

The entire city of London is designated a Controlled Parking Zone and there are some restrictions about stopping or parking in certain areas.

Some streets are designated as part of the Red Zone, which means there is no stopping allowed, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.

The controlled hours for the City of London Zone are 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays, and 7 AM to 11 AM Saturdays.

During these times motorists must pay for parking in permitted bays and may not park on single yellow lines.

During the off peak hours in the evening and weekends, there are some metered areas that are free and parking is allowed in single yellow line areas.

You can pay for an hour of metered parking with change or credit or debit cards, and you cannot extend that time.

Uniformed meter readers are always on the prowl and are notorious for their efficient and pitiless enforcement of the parking laws.

If you need more than an hour of parking time, there are also car parks available where you can stay for multiple hours or even all day.

The Council operates 6 car parks in London, which are open 24 hours, have automated services as well as a customer service desk, and are security monitored by CCTV.

Additionally there are at least 8 private car parks operating within the city that have similar amenities.

London parking information is important; being careful and paying attention will save you both money and headaches.
