Best London Record Shops - Smooth Moves at Pure Groove Records
In London, record shops sometimes find it hard to keep going. These days there are so many places where you can get music that the idea of the old record store seems positively quaint.

Many stores have just closed down, run out of business by the lower prices and larger selection found online. Luckily, Pure Groove is a decided exception to this trend. The store started out in 1989 as an imported dance music record store, but soon outgrew this niche and expanded to the point of bursting at the seams with a jumble of inventory. They moved locations in 2008, and re-opened in a much more organized and streamlined fashion. The new space is really fabulous, and definitely adds to the experience. Located near Smithfield Market, these days Pure Groove Records is much more than just a record store. Indeed, it is perhaps even better known to many Londoners as a live music venue than just as a place to purchase music. The store draws in big crowds for its album launches, DJ nights, and live shows, and they have hosted an impressive line up of both well-known bands and emerging talent. There is a gallery at the location, as well as a café with free WiFi. The cappuccino and cakes at the café are lovely, and they also serve alcoholic beverages if you are in the mood to imbibe. While visiting, you are treated to what Pure Groove calls their “ace music”, so bring your laptop and be ready to spend a few hours enjoying the ambiance and the tunes. As befits their status as a record store of note, they have a great selection of music on both CD and vinyl. You will hear about all the newest bands here, and probably come across something special that you would not have discovered otherwise. London record shops like Pure Groove are great for visitors because you can spend an enjoyable hour or so in here and come out knowing quite a lot about the new music scene in London.
