In London, the Victoria and Albert Museum Rules

London Victoria and Albert Museum

In London, the Victoria and Albert Museum is a beloved landmark.

Located in Cromwell Gardens, South Kensington, it was established in 1852 and boasts more than 2 million visitors a year.

The breadth and depth of its collections are truly astonishing; the museum has more than 4.5 million objects in its collection, 145 galleries, and covers an area of 12.5 acres.

More of a treasure chest than a stuffy museum, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy here.

The Victoria and Albert Museum collections are divided into several difference categories.

Thanks to a partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects, the museum now has the finest architectural archives in Europe.

The Asian collections are extensive, with objects from China, India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

The Ceramics collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum is simply the largest and best in the world.

The Contemporary collection highlights what is new in the world of art, design, craft, and media.

Fashion and Jewellery is a collection of clothing, shoes, and accessories from the 17th century to modern times, and the Textiles collection is fantastic.

The Sculpture exhibit is the most extensive collection of post-classical European sculptures.

More than 14,000 pieces strong, the Furniture collection at Victoria and Albert Museum dates from the Middle ages to present day, and is primarily focused on Britain, Europe, and America.

The National Collection of Glass at the museum contains over 6000 pieces, depicting the more than 4000 year history of glass and glassmaking.

Metalwork, such as silver, armour, enamels, and pewter, are on display as well.

The museum has a large collection of British art and painting, and their Photography collection is one of the most important in the world.

The Prints and Books collection is a wonderful insight into the art and craft of printing, and the Theatre and Performance collection houses many objects and costumes that have made up much of Britain’s performance history.

For London, the Victoria and Albert Museum is an irreplaceable repository of the nation’s decorative past.
