Madam Tussaud
- Children Love the Waxworks

Tickets for Madam Tussaud in London are a good thing to get if you are travelling with children. The waxworks have been a perennial favourite over the years, and children are usually quite fascinated by these lifelike creations.

Madam Tussaud

Madame Tussaud was born in Strasbourg, France in 1761. Her mentor was Dr. Philippe Curtius, a physician skilled at making wax models.

When the doctor died in 1794, Madam Tussaud inherited his large collection of figures and added them to her own growing collection.

She toured London in 1802 and ended up establishing a museum here that was very successful.

One of the most popular exhibits at the time was the Chamber of Horrors that included waxen death masks of people decapitated during the French Revolution as well as wax models of notorious criminals and murderers. You can see the oldest figure on display, the animated “Sleeping Beauty” which was made in 1763 in the likeness of Madame du Barry, the mistress of Louis XV.

The current museum is located on Marylebone Road in London, but over the years the company has established branches all over the world.

The wax museum has an amazing assortment of models of famous persons. You can see historical figures such as William Shakespeare and Pablo Picasso, world leaders such as Queen Elizabeth and Barack Obama, and celebrities such as the Beckhams and Kate Moss.

Be sure to visit the Spirit of London, where you can ride in a miniature black cab through an exhibit celebrating the history of the city.

Scream is a very popular exhibit as well, incorporating elements of the original Chamber of Horrors with the more modern theme of a maximum security prison being taken over by its deranged inmates. The exhibits are open to all ages, but the Scream exhibit is recommended for children age 12 and up.
