Among Fine Restaurants, West London Adores the Belvedere

Belvedere

When choosing restaurants, West London is a good place to start looking. It has many good places to eat, and the Belvedere is one of the nicest restaurants in the area. Set in the Summer Ballroom of the mansion that was once Holland House, the restaurant stands in the middle of Holland Park.

Its location is just minutes away from the fashionable and trendy Notting Hill and Kensington neighbourhoods, making it a popular spot for the affluent local population.

Despite its highbrow locale, the prices are notably reasonable for the kind of fine dining experience you will get at the Belvedere.

The building itself is just lovely, built from Roman bricks with archways and elaborate carvings which give it an exotic storybook feel. Flowing muslin drapery, large windows and a large mirrored wall all add to the drama and elegance of the surroundings. The tables are beautifully set around the room and there is a cocktail pianist playing quiet music that adds a delightful backdrop to your fine dining experience.

The menu is Anglo-French and is surprisingly down-to-earth. The set price menu du jour and weekend lunch is truly a bargain and should not be missed. The food is simply excellent; preparation is generally simple and the flavours are fresh and bright. You can tell that they use only the best ingredients carefully prepared.

Some of the menu standouts are Venison Carpaccio with Pickled Mushrooms and Parmesan Cheese, Roast Pheasant with Brussels Sprouts and Chestnuts, and a lovely Grilled Lemon Sole served on the bone.

You can also get one of their most popular dishes, Battered Filet of Haddock with Broken Peas, Chips and Tartare Sauce which looks suspiciously like plain old Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas, but you can bet it will be the best Fish and Chips ever.

The international wine list is quite extensive and definitely worth a look.

Desserts are also simple but elegant; Crème Brûlée with Madagascar Vanilla, Black Treacle Ice Cream, and even Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce.

Regarding restaurants, West London has a lot to offer and the Belvedere is top of the list.
