Skating in London
- Let's Go Rollerblading

Skating in London is a popular pastime. As in many congested urban areas, many of the people in London have gotten mobile on roller blades or in-line skates.

Skating in London

If you have never skated before, you can get lessons from instructors at London Skaters or SkateFresh. Most skating classes take place at either Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens as these are very skate-friendly parks, and are the social centre of rollerblading in London.

There are many places to hire skates as well. Near Hyde Park you can find skate shops like Slick Willies, Club Blue Room, Sun and Snow, and Urban Chaos that will be happy to get you geared up for the sport.

Beginners are welcome to take part in the Easy Saturday Skate that meets at Battersea Park on Saturdays at 10:30 AM, this is a group practise skate in an open area with no obstacles.

If you have skating skills already, you are ready for some of the skating activities that take place weekly during the warm weather months in London.

The Sunday Stroll is a leisurely paced trip through Hyde Park, it is off road so you don't have to concern yourself with cars and traffic. The stroll meets at 2:00 PM on Sundays at Serpentine Road in Hyde Park and the skate lasts about 2 hours.

If you are game for a bit more of a challenge, try the Wednesday night LondonSkate event. Hundreds of people meet up at the bandstand in Hyde Park at 8:00 PM to skate a two-hour route of intermediate difficulty.

The London Friday Night Skate is another fun but challenging skate course, they meet at the Wellington Arch in Hyde Park each Friday at 8:00 PM for a two hour skate around the city.

Both of these evening skates draw hundreds of participants each week, and in good weather, the skate is accompanied by music from a tricycle-powered sound system.

The music and camaraderie gives the skate a delightful party atmosphere. Skating in London is good fun for all.
