The Dorchester in London, is located on Park Lane in Mayfair.
For over 70 years it has been one of London’s most elegant hotels and a symbol of luxury and style.
Afternoon tea is one of their specialties and people come from all over the world to experience what they have to offer. The Dorchester stands alone amongst hotels, having won the Top London Afternoon Tea Award from the UK Tea Guild for three years.
Afternoon tea is served in The Promenade which is a delightful marble and gold lounge full of comfortable seating and exotic potted palm trees. This setting is truly the heart of the hotel and people go there as much to see and be seen as they do for the outstanding afternoon tea fare.
You have several choices for afternoon tea at The Dorchester.
One recommendation is that you try to book during the week, as weekends are extremely crowded there.
They serve the Dorchester Afternoon Tea, the Dorchester Champagne Afternoon Tea, and the Dorchester High Tea.
The Dorchester Afternoon Tea begins with finger sandwiches filled with delights like smoked salmon, egg, cream cheese, and prawn.
The scones at The Dorchester are a revelation. They are made using the same recipe they have used for the last 50 years, and when you taste them you will know why this recipe has stood the test of time so well. Scones are served with Devonshire cream, strawberry preserves, and another seasonal fruit preserve.
The final course are the pastries and cakes, you might find a spice cake, berry tart, or raspberry macaroon on the platter and be sure to keep an eye out for the Chocolate Marquis.
The Champagne Tea has all of this plus a glass of pink champagne.
The High Tea is a bit more of a substantial meal; it consists of all the pleasures of the afternoon tea plus an additional entrée such as Poached Salmon with Rose Champagne Sauce or Glazed Spinach Tart with Potato Scotch Eggs.
