The Mandeville Hotel in London is located in fashionable Marylebone, surrounded by Mayfair hotspots and shops.

It is a lovely place to take a break from shopping and sightseeing and enjoy afternoon tea.

They offer a traditional tea in their deVille Restaurant, but they also offer something a bit more unusual.

Afternoon tea sometimes seems to be primarily the domain of ladies who lunch, grannies out for a special day, or mother-daughter duos. Men don’t generally enter into consideration at this event, except perhaps as escorts or bill payers. This is a shame because afternoon tea is a wonderful meal and men who shun it as a “women’s event” are truly missing out.

The Mandeville Hotel has decided to right this wrong with their Men’s Afternoon Tea.

At The Mandeville, the Men’s Afternoon tea is designed to appeal to the urban man about town who would like to take an afternoon break either on his own or with friends. The tea is offered Monday through Saturday, from 3 PM to 5:30 PM.

There is a special menu for this tea which contains rather more substantial fare such as roast sirloin sandwiches, potted shrimp, and chicken satay.

Of course, there are scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry jam as there would be in any proper afternoon tea, but there are also double chocolate brownies and fruitcake with bourbon.

There are many excellent teas to choose from, and also a very interesting selection of fine whiskies such as 12 year old Lowland Rosebank, 12 year old Speyside Balvenie, and 15 year old Highland Glen Garioch. Champagne and Champagne Cocktails are also available during the Men’s Afternoon Tea.

Service is more classical than frilly, Tiffany blue china and crisp white linens make for a pleasant but not girly table setting.

There are also games available such as backgammon, poker, chess, and dominoes for those who fancy a bit of sport with their tea.
