Tiffany Jewellers in London opened on Bond Street in 1986, but the company’s history goes back more than a century.
Charles Lewis Tiffany and his school chum John Young opened the first store in New York City in 1837.
They had fixed pricing on all items that was non-negotiable.
That same year marked the introduction of the iconic Tiffany’s packaging, the blue box.
Tiffany’s wealthy clientele was enchanted by the ever-changing assortment of luxury goods, silver, and jewellery at the store, and in 1878 when Charles Tiffany purchased the “Tiffany Diamond”, one of the fanciest and largest yellow diamonds ever found, his reputation was sealed.
Tiffany’s became well known for their expertise with diamonds, and they actually are responsible for the modern diamond engagement ring as we now know it.
The “Tiffany Setting” is the six-pronged setting that elevates the diamond from the band, allowing it to sparkle in the light.
Charles Tiffany’s son, Louis Comfort Tiffany carried on with the family tradition of excellence, adding fine enamel wear and jewellery to the Tiffany line.
Today, Tiffany & Co. continues to innovate and delight with their extensive collections of fine jewellery.
Designers like Paloma Picasso, Elsa Peretti, and Jean Schlumberger have entire lines of their creations at Tiffany.
The store has an amazing collection of key pendants, in all shapes and sizes, ranging from plain sterling silver to platinum embedded with diamonds.
Tiffany also carries watches for men and women, eyewear, and a line of fragrances, too.
A visit to the Tiffany & Co. store is a special treat indeed.
The customer service is excellent, with many smiling employees happy to show you your choice of anything in the store.
The ground floor is full of some of the most remarkable and highly priced jewellery, if your budget is a bit more limited you might head upstairs to where the more reasonably priced items are located.
Whatever you decide to purchase, be it one of their fabled engagement rings or just a simple keychain, you will get it in that magical Tiffany’s box that has been a symbol of excellence for over a century.
Tiffany Jewellers in London is a very special place indeed and certainly worth a visit.
