Looking for one of the top London restaurants? Look no further than Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s.
Gordon Ramsay, who has a notorious reputation as a loud and arrogant celebrity chef, took over the restaurant at Claridge’s in 2001, much to the consternation of the regular customers. Happily, it worked out and regardless of how you feel about Gordon Ramsay, this restaurant is fantastic.
The head chef is Steve Allen, a young Gordon Ramsay protégée who worked his way up to the position under the tutelage of Mark Sargeant.
This is fine dining at its best, reservations need to be made well in advance and rest assured you will truly have an evening to remember.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated in the finest Art Deco style. The dining room evokes the heights of 1930s chic with lovely etched glass panels and three tiered lampshades dangling overhead. The colours are warm and inviting with large floral displays, rich drapery and crisp linens.
The staff is impeccably professional and well-dressed. It is all that anyone could want in a restaurant of this calibre, and then some.
The menu is extensive and interesting. There is a set lunch which is quite a bargain; you can choose three courses from the likes of Hot Smoked Cornish Mackerel with Baby Gem and White Grape and Caper Dressing, Poached Duck Egg with Wild Mushroom Persillade, Beetroot Fondant and Thyme Velouté, and Praline and Bitter Chocolate Parfait with Glazed Apricots.
Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s also offers the Menu Prestige which is a six course tasting menu that includes items like Native lobster and salmon ravioli, lemongrass and coconut bisque, Rack of Cumbrian lamb with confit shoulder, courgette chips, peas, broad beans and mint sauce or Steamed Anglesey bass with scallop, cucumber and apple, Oscietra caviar sauce.
The restaurant has a Chef’s Table in the kitchen that can be booked by groups; the menu and wine are all specially chosen just for you by the Chef and sommelier. If you can’t book the Chef’s Table, guests are often invited to tour the kitchen so be sure to inquire if you’d like to see it.
Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s is the kind of restaurant you will never forget.
